We will consider all applications for enrolment, consistent with the School Education Regulations and Enrolment in Public Schools policies, prioritising the local intake area, and considering applications outside of the local intake area where the school has sufficient accommodation to meet all local intake placements.

You will generally be contacted within 3 school days of receipt of the application for enrolment and advised in writing of the outcome. Please note, our office is closed during school holidays, emails will be actioned when staff return. If the school makes an offer of enrolment, you will be invited to attend the school for an interview, tour and to complete the enrolment.

Kindergarten

A year of part-time Kindergarten is available at Highgate Primary School. While it is not compulsory, most parents enrol their children, so they get the best start to learning at school. If your child is four years old by 30 June 2025, you can apply to enrol them in Kindergarten for 2025. Applications for Kindy 2025 closed on 27 July 2024; applications received after this date will be added to our placement list and may be considered for second-round offers. Applications for Kindy 2026 will open in April 2025.

Wherever possible, your child will be offered a place at Highgate Primary School if they reside within the school’s local intake area. However, if the number of applications for enrolment exceeds the number of places available, you may be referred to a nearby Kindergarten with places available. The School Education Regulations 2000 specify how we must prioritise enrolment offers for Kindergarten. Enrolment in our Kindergarten Program does not guarantee a child a place in a Pre-primary program at Highgate Primary School the following year.

Pre-primary – Year 6

Every child of compulsory school age is required to be enrolled in and attend school. Once enrolment is accepted for Pre-primary, or directly into Years 1-6, there is no need to re-enrol each year.

Applications for enrolment from outside of our Local Intake Area

We consider applications for enrolment from students outside of our local intake area. Where the school has the capacity to accommodate these enrolments, while guaranteeing enough places for students within the local intake area, we will offer a place in the following priority order:

  • A student qualifying for an approved specialist program for that year.
  • A student who will have a sibling also enrolled at the school for that year, other than a sibling in an approved specialist program, and who lives nearest to the school.
  • A student who will not have a sibling enrolled at the school for that year or with a sibling in an approved specialist program and who lives nearest to the school.
